Week 4

After working at Chandler Educational Television (CET) I have come to find they take a more interdisciplinary approach to their organization. Since it is an extremely small station (3 employees not including myself) this is done out of necessity. Being a non-profit organization, it is almost a necessity for everyone to be able to apply many different areas of discipline to their work. In fact, one gentleman I work with has two degrees both relating to different areas of graphic design and production. It's interesting how well these three gentleman work together. Everyone of them has come from a different area of media production and graphic design and yet all of them were able to come together to produce a variety of shows. One example of this is how a graphic designer will help build and assemble as well as operate the camera all in the same day!

With that said disciplines are not defined and represented at CET. Seeing as there are only three people that work here, they must each be able to take on any task that is given to them, hence the lack of titles. The only person that they are responsible for reporting to is the school Superintendent who is in charge of designating funds for the project as well as suggesting edits to be made. But if I was to designate a hierarchy I would say it would start off with the Superintendent, then my mentor, followed by the other 2 employees, then at the bottom would be the intern (me)! :)

  1. Great job of applying the concepts of ‘interdisciplinarity’ that you learned in 301 to your applied study experience.
