The image posted on this blog is an example of the type of work I am involved in at my internship at Chandler Educational Television. In using an online portfolio, I am able to showcase such skills by bringing them to life in a virtual medium. However, I distribue my online portfolio information by request only, much like my references. Below is a sample of my resume that I currently have posted on various career websites. A cover letter that would be used in the traditional sense is obviously customized to the job I would be applying for so it is not included. Also, since this is a public blog, please excuse the censored information! :)

ReplyDeleteYour resume looks fairly extensive for someone of your age. The summary of your skills related to your education is well-documented and provides you with a foundation that others may not have. You also have a well-established work-related background that can apply directly to both your career and your intended career. It seems as though the internship you are currently doing to fulfill the requirements of this class is the most applicable thing on your resume, though the other work opportunities display your people-skills and desire to educate. Looking from strictly a resume standpoint, it may be a good idea to not abandon your current internship until you’ve discovered the next step you will take after graduating, if possible. It seems as though you know what you want to do, and that your interests have evolved over time, though have remained on a similar path. Best of luck to you.

Hi Michelle,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have some good work experience. I would like to see your portfolio if you would like to e-mail me a link. Although you have some awesome work experience there are a few things on your resume that need some work. Here are a few suggestions: you might want to list an objective instead of a summary. You are not getting a BA its a BIS, I would write out Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies. Also, I would include your GPA or major GPA. Take HS off your resume!!! Good job with your action statements.

Ms.Busk, PBS is one incredible form of the media that most people over look. Especially in the digital age, if it’s not on ESPN, HBO or YouTube, it tends to get lost in the rest of the may lay. I hope people locally can see the effort and educational aspect you can bring to the youth. Knowing about the people you are dealing with is half the battle. To draw the links between education and the community are crucial for any students of any age. Your resume is extensive and showcases your impressive skills. Hopefully employers can see the dedication within you that cannot be expressed on a website or resume.
ReplyDeleteMichelle I really liked how you used photos from your work in making a online portfolio. I was impressed on how well you were able to produce that as well as the part of your resume. This shows that you are excited about your job and perhaps are looking forward to what can and will lead from your internship. It makes a real difference in our community that you are involved in the education of the youth. Keep up the good work. As well as great job.
